Finally presented our song

We finally presented our song in class on Tuesday the 13th, it seemed like people liked it. I posted a link to the song on Reddit and here is the link to the YouTube video

I hope you like it!

As Danny stated before we did a overnight recording session. In the morning we decided to scrap everything we had because of how poorly it sounded (and the occasional tempo problem). Our second take was much better as we mic'd the drums and guitars much better

Thanksgiving weekend

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!!

Nick, Jonathon, Mike and I did a major recording session a couple nights back. We got through only half the song though in 24 hours... So I wonder how long the minor... the bridge? outtro?... The MinorBrigdeOuttro will take.

I would just like to say that I am the all time best musical genius ever..FACT. On the flip side, so far (I think) that the song we are going to present is going to go like this.
~Bass Intro Verse x1
~Drums come in x1
~RGuitar comes in x1/2
~Lead comes in w/ intro solo x2, joins in with a different cord x1
 -Drum fill bridge
~chorus, 4 chord progression with lead strumming triplets of each individual note of the chord the rhythm is playing
~ (to be determined drum fill bridge or musical bridge)
~Verse
~Bridge into Chorus again
~Chorus
~Bridge into Outro part 1
~Outro part 1, eventually dies down
~climb into Outro part 2
~Outro part 2, song fades out.

Slightly late post from the google day on the 14th

We had a mildly productive jam on Monday, one of nick's guitar's strings broke just before the Google day and we did not have any drums, but we managed. We are planning to record a video and a recording of us playing one of our songs on Tuesday. We were originally going to do this last Thursday but it just didn't work out for us.

10/28 google day

We had a productive jam session on monday, and we think we may end up using the second song we wrote instead of the first one because it has more of the "indie rock" sound we were looking to create.

Also this!

I forgot to mention this: we enlisted the help of Mr. Duden of our history department to help us record our songs. Walsh is vehemently opposed to this idea as we have mediocre recording equipment as well. But our lack of a mixer may be a bit of a problem...

What we did on Monday. We pretty much started to develop a more definitive structure in our music and finally have on song down... except for maybe vocals. Mr. Matthys pointed at me to sing, but I think our group decided that if a the world came to an end that I would still not sing.

Band Sleepover

I was too busy so I didn't go... But Walsh officially joined our little band!

Flannel Brothers

Okay so. Apparently, since everyone in our band (but me, I wear plaid) has flannel shirts. So I guess you can call us the flannel bros. Also if you hadn't noticed. Our funk isn't say... talented, so we switched to a more indie-rock that fits more our style.

Mike scraps our ideas

Google day. Guess what. Michael comes in a derails our entire plans. In fact, everything we did Sunday was thrown out. But hey, I guess this is what musics all about: to get the best results. Something has to go.

Sunday Jam

A few Sundays ago. Nick, Johnny and I got together and tried to improv some new things. We only got so far before we scrapped most of what we did in our session. But, we did come up with some cool saxophone solo parts and a reggae chord progression.

Sorry about the lack of posts

Oh man. I'm really sorry for not posting in forever. So, I'm going to try to make all the missed blogs in the course of these few days before the end of the week.

10/21 jam session

Our band has changed directions, moving from a more funk style into a more indie rock style.  We finalized a song to record, and fine tuning and recording will commence shortly.  We have worked all evening long in creating improv solos and new riffs to add on to the song.  Well, we haven't been working all evening, we waited angrily for two hours for a pizza to be delivered and watched Futurama and music videos.  Overall, a productive night of jamming and creating new additions to our song, and we will be working on writing lyrics, although who will be the singer is still to be decided.

-Nick
Today, I had Nick and Jonathan over to write some of the song. We worked out our final outros intros and verse into chorus bridges. We still have to work on our bridge from the chorus to the minor outro verse and adding either a third guitar/vocals/piano (haven't decided yet). Posters Will be pictured 5 seconds after this post goes up! ~Mike

Played Bass and Drums today because danny was sick

One bass, acoustic, two 12 strings, Fender Strat, Ibanez clone, Ephiphone les paul, and Pearl drumset Later....

10/16 Jam

We jammed again today and it was our most productive jam session to date. We came up with some great ideas, chord progressions, bass lines, all the things that are supposed to come out of a jam session. We plan to work on these ideas more on our next Google Project day which is Wednesday. We are also planning to jam for a long time on Wednesday and see if we can get a full song or most of a song out of it.

10/5 jam session

10/5-

The jam session today went really well.  We came up with some pretty good funk riffs to jam along to, and I will continue to come up with more over the next few days.  We're sounding pretty good so far... except for my Anthony Kiedis imitation voice, which needs some work. On Tuesday, we contacted Mr. Duden about using some of his recording equipment for recording our final project, and we will be working with him over the next couple months during the recording process.  As of now, we are not sure exactly which song we will be doing or if it will be original or a cover of another song by another band.  However, by the way things are looking only a few weeks into the project, I think the final product of our work will be very good.

-Nick

update

We talked to a teacher at our school who knows about recording and has all the equipment, and he said he would help us when it comes time to record. We also jammed again today, and we plan to do some more on Friday.

Plans for our next jam session

After reading the comments I think that recording our jam session is a great idea, and we will likely get to work on that as soon as possible, but we need to figure out our set up for recording our final product and our jam sessions, so it probably wont happen for the next few jam sessions.
We are hoping to get together this weekend. Nick and I were able to jam for a little bit on sunday, but danny was unable to join us.

EDIT: After searching online, I have found an adapter that would allow us to record the bass and guitars straight to a computer, we just have to order it online.

Hey!

Sorry that this post is a little late, but I'm here. This brand-new for all of us here at LOHS so I hope that it will go well. So we started jamming out on Monday the 19th. I'd say it was somewhat productive. Anyways, all of us here at HRG Funk Band hope for a good grade. (Please give us a good grade. Oh please, oh please)
